Medicine and pharmaceuticals

High-precision, reliable and clean. Fischer measurement technology for many applications in medical technology and the pharmaceutical industry.

In the medical technology and pharmaceutical industries, precision, reliability and sterility are the measure of all things. Dedicated regulations clearly govern manufacturing processes and approval procedures for medical preparations, specify hygiene standards for carrying out operations or stipulate the handling of sensitive materials such as biocompatible plastics, biological tissues and active pharmaceutical ingredients in research and development facilities. Fischer measurement technology is used when it comes to elementary coatings, for example on implants or medical technology products that need to be durable and safe. Quality control is also playing an increasingly important role in composite fillings and dental gold alloys.

In order to ensure the high demands placed on medical devices and products and their constant, reliable function, measurement technology from Fischer is used in industrial environments – from quality testing of production and incoming goods inspection to the inspection of individual components. Our instruments are also used in research and development applications. Fischer measurement technology guarantees you reliable measurement results for coating thickness measurement, material analysis, nanoindentation and material testing and helps you to comply with specified standards and directives.

Enamel layers and implants
Composite fillings and dental gold alloys
Medical devices

Enamel surfaces are not only cut and scratch-resistant, but also bacteria-inhibiting and particularly resistant to corrosion and heat. They are designed to last. Enamel, for example, acts as the hardest and most mineralized protective layer in our bodies. Due to their characteristic hardness properties and exceptional durability, glass-forming oxides are specifically used in the medical technology and pharmaceutical industries to coat dental crowns, containers or reactors for production, for example.

Biocompatible materials such as ceramics, titanium or chromium-cobalt alloys, which are also characterized by extreme hardness and wear resistance, are also used in the manufacture of implants. Implants are also coated to achieve better compatibility and to protect the implant from body fluids – from classic silver coatings to photocatalytic titanium oxide coatings. Fischer offers specific measurement technology for the determination of micro hardness, coating thickness and material analysis for quality testing of enamel coatings and medical and pharmaceutical materials.

Application Notes

In modern dentistry, conventional amalgam fillings have been replaced by so-called "composites" for some time now. This is a plastic filling made from a mixture of the finest glass and ceramic particles. The color of the composite filling can be matched to the existing teeth, while at the same time meeting the requirements for dimensional stability, pressure resistance and durability. With the measuring devices from Fischer, you can carry out high-precision and uncomplicated hardness measurements on medical plastic fillings and thus reliably test the material quality.

When old dental fillings are replaced, this often involves dental gold alloys, which are subsequently tested for authenticity and material composition. Fischer also offers a comprehensive product portfolio of measuring devices for energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence analysis for this purpose!

Application Notes

The components of medical devices are subject to extremely strict safety and quality requirements. One example of this is plain bearings, such as those used in high-quality X-ray instruments. The quality of their surfaces is crucial for the proper functioning of the plain bearings. Even the finest hairline cracks impair their smooth movement and therefore the precise alignment of the device.

Fischer offers the optimum measurement technology for these measuring tasks. With our high-resolution measuring devices, you can reliably and precisely detect defects and inhomogeneities on the surfaces of your medical devices.
